Many listeners believed it as an anthem of self-respect since it highlights fairness, making sure that the treatment goes both ways. What’s thrown at her, she’ll surely give back, as well as refusing to be silenced and be submissive; signifying empowerment. It’s like McRae’s way of letting everyone know that they can’t took advantage of her. 

       However, a lot of speculations from fans that Tit For Tat is McRae’s musical response to The Kid Laroi’s latest song “u” after their split on July, 2025. She doesn't confirm anything of it but fans still believed it, citing lyrical connection. Nonetheless, Tit For Tat is a masterpiece regardless of it’s issue.
