Netflix Developing Live-Action Assassin’s Creed Series Based on Hit Video Game

    Assassin’s Creed is a best-selling video game franchise created by Ubisoft in 2007, known for combining stealth, parkour, and combat with historical settings. The games follow a secret war between the Assassins, who fight for freedom, and the Templars, who seek control. Players experience these events through the “Animus,” a machine that lets characters relive the memories of their ancestors during key moments in history.

  

 In 2016, the franchise was adapted into a Hollywood movie starring Michael Fassbender. While it had high production value, the film received mixed to negative reviews for its story and pacing.

    On July 17, 2025, Netflix officially announced that it is developing a high-octane live-action TV series based on the games. The project is being led by Roberto Patino (Westworld, DMZ) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming), who will serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers.

    The series aims to stay true to the game’s adventurous tone and historical depth while adding fresh surprises for both longtime fans and new viewers. It will feature intense action, historical drama, and the core theme of the battle between free will and control.

    Currently, the show is still in development — it’s in the writing and planning stages, not yet filming. No official release date has been given, but industry estimates suggest a launch in late 2025 or early 2026.

    This adaptation is part of Netflix’s push to turn major video game franchises into series, following successes like The Witcher and Arcane. Fans hope the show will deliver a faithful and exciting version of the beloved game series.
